What rough-in means
Rough-in is the stage after framing when plumbing, electrical and HVAC lines are run inside the open walls and floors, before insulation and drywall.
Also called rough, rough-in stage.
Where it matters on a general contracting job
Rough-in inspections gate the rest of the job, and changes after drywall cost a lot more. Walk the house with the customer at rough-in to confirm outlet, fixture and switch locations.
