What self-leveling compound means
Self-leveling compound is a pourable cement based mix that flows out to fill low spots and make a flat floor for tile or flooring.
Also called floor leveler, SLU.
Where it matters on a flooring job
Floor flatness problems show up after the floor is down, as hollow spots and lippage. Measure with a long straightedge, price leveling by the bag, and give it time to cure.
What it costs
Jobs that involve self-leveling compound are priced in the tile installation cost guide: about $2,100 typical, usually $950 to $5,000. The guide shows its sources and what moves the price. The flooring cost calculator prices a job line by line.
