What soundproofing means
Soundproofing is building walls, floors and ceilings to cut down sound passing between rooms, by adding mass, separating framing, filling cavities and sealing gaps.
Also called sound control, STC.
Where it matters on a drywall job
Customers expect silence, so be clear about what a given assembly improves. Sealing outlets and gaps matters as much as the materials and is cheap to include.
