What knockdown texture means
Knockdown is a drywall texture made by spraying blobs of thinned mud and flattening them with a knife, leaving a mottled look.
Also called knockdown finish, orange peel.
Where it matters on a drywall job
Matching existing texture on a patch is the hardest part of drywall repair. Test on a scrap first and tell the customer up front that a perfect match is not always possible.
