| Price | |
|---|---|
| Low end | $1,700 |
| Typical | $2,500 |
| High end | $3,250 |
Sources: Fixr, HomeAdvisor and Bob Vila, combined as shown below. Local wages shift the typical price from about $2,213 in Arkansas to $2,981 in Hawaii.
What drives the price
- Attic size. Priced by the square foot. HomeAdvisor puts labor alone at $1.50 to $3 a square foot.
- Type. Blown-in fiberglass and cellulose are the common choices. Spray foam on the roof deck costs far more.
- Depth. Colder climates need more inches to reach the recommended R-value.
- Prep. Air sealing and removing old, wet or pest-soiled insulation come first.
Extra costs to plan for
| Item | Price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Old insulation removal | $1 to $1.50 a sq ft | HomeAdvisor |
| Air sealing | $250 to $750 | HomeAdvisor |
Ask whether each of these is in the quote. Two bids for the same attic insulation can be far apart only because one includes them.

We take the middle of the guides' lows for the low end, the middle of their highs for the high end, and the middle of their averages for the typical attic insulation price. Where a guide gives no average we use its midpoint. All read on October 9, 2026.
Labor share used: 50%. None of the guides splits labor out for this job, so this share is Koira's working assumption for insulation work. State factor: the state's median hourly wage for construction and extraction workers over the national $28.63 (BLS, May 2025), kept between 0.7 and 1.4.
