What tee fitting means
A tee is a fitting shaped like the letter T that joins a branch line to a main line. On drains, a sanitary tee has a curved inlet to direct the flow down.

Where it matters on a plumbing job
Using the wrong drain fitting, such as a sanitary tee laid on its back, slows drains and fails inspection. Know which fittings are allowed in which direction.
