What PVC and ABS drain pipe means
PVC, which is white, and ABS, which is black, are the rigid plastic pipes used for drain, waste and vent lines. Each is joined with its own solvent cement.
Also called DWV pipe.
Where it matters on a plumbing job
Some areas allow only one or the other. Joining PVC to ABS takes a listed transition fitting or cement, which inspectors check. Match what the house has on repairs.
